Minicraft is a game for android and other platforms that copies the popular game Minecraft. It follows a blocky universe where you have a sword and you can construct various buildings. You also have to deal with various enemies such as those similar to creepers. It also features zombies.

Background and Overview

The game was made very quickly in response to a competition known as Ludum Date. The theme of the competition was “alone.” The game itself is 2d and it has the top-down style instead of the side-scroller style. The game was made quickly, in under 48 hours or so. You wander around and fight monsters while looking for resources you can use to build stuff later.

There’s a lot to explore in the game and it lends itself well to people who like a sandbox type approach to gaming.

Pros and Cons

  • Zelda Comparison- One of the good elements of the game is that it’s similar to Zelda. If you’re a big fan of Minecraft and construction type games, and you’re also a big fan of games that have more of an adventure element like Zelda, then you could definitely like this hybrid.
  • Easy Controls- Another useful element of the game is the fact that it’s simple to pick up. You don’t have to spend a lot of time trying to figure it out. It’s intuitive so you can get right to playing around.
  • Exploration- If you like having some element of exploration in the game, then you’ll like this game because there’s plenty to explore. The game recombines a lot and you can pick where you want to go as you round out your understanding of the world in any particular direction.
  • One-dimensional- A big downside to this game, however, is that it really only has one note to it. You’re not going to end up with a lot of variety because the repletion in the game, while making for a lot of ground to explore technically, also means that the game can come across as fairly flat overall. It can get repetitive, and some people may find it boring as a result. After all, the game was made in only 2 days as part of a competition to do so. It’s not like they had a lot of time to add an infinite amount of depth to it.

Overall, if you like games you can play casually that have a Zelda or Minecraft feel, then this could definitely be the game for you. But if you get easily bored due to endless repetition of the same elements, then it might not be the game that you want.
